If you can imagine it, we can do it! We’ll bring your home improvement vision to life and work with you to select the best materials that fit within your budget.

Selecting the Right Tile

With so many options to choose from, selecting a tile that fits your personality and space may seem daunting! After all, there are certain materials that work better in bathrooms or backsplashes rather than flooring, so it’s important to know what will work best in your home.

For example, there are some specific characteristics that distinguish tile that goes on walls vs. floors such as the COF level, which defines the friction level of a tile. Tile with a COF rating of 0.5 or more is generally best for floors.

Here are quite a few choices to filter through and a little bit about what function they serve best:

Ceramic Tile

Ceramic tiles are manufactured from clay and are very popular due to their versatility, long life span, and their ability to resist scratches. They complement virtually every type of decor out there. Ceramic is best used indoors as it doesn’t adapt well to extreme temps.

Porcelain Tile

These tiles are often described as a type of ceramic tile, as porcelain tiles are also made out of clay material but treated at higher temperatures to achieve a stronger and more resistant tile. Porcelain is much less porous, making it adequate for outdoor use and areas with foot traffic.

Glass Tile

Glass is an excellent choice for backsplashes and shower tile as it is remarkably stain resistant. It is best on a wall as it can easily chip and crack if something falls on it.

Marble Tile

Marble has always been viewed as an upscale material seen in expensive homes and buildings. Marble tile boasts deep veins and elegance that is not easily replicated by any other choices. While more expensive, marble holds up to traffic well and will add an element of luxury to your home or business.

Granite Tile

Granite is another type of natural stone that holds up very well to heavy foot traffic and is very durable. Granite is also a great place for areas like kitchens where liquid spills happen frequently as it doesn’t really absorb moisture or stains.

Slate Tile

Slate is very popular as it is especially durable and beautiful. Slate is also highly slip resistant and though it’s generally less expensive than granite and marble, it still looks high-end.

Tile Installation Cost

The cost to install tile or re-tile an area will greatly depend on several factors including the size of the space, materials used, and amount of labor. Tiles like marble and granite and tiles that need to be sealed are going to cost more than something like ceramic and porcelain.

Additionally, there may be demolition work required to rip up your old flooring before being able to re-tile the floor.

Choosing a Reputable Tile Installer

When determining which company you’ll use for setting tile, it’s crucial that you choose professionals that are licensed and insured to protect you from any potential mishaps that could arise. Canaan Land Tile has been in the business for years, laying tile for hundreds of customers from bathrooms to kitchens.
